Rubicon Shines at Solar & Storage Live Africa 2024

Rubicon had a phenomenal showing at Solar & Storage Live Africa, forging strong connections, and showcasing industry-leading technology. The event, which took place on 18 – 20 March 2024, buzzed with excitement for Solar's potential across South Africa.

Here are some key takeaways from the show, provided by Nick Roche, chief product officer at Rubicon:

  • Market Match: It was clear that Rubicon's offerings perfectly align with the market's needs. Our containerised battery storage solution was a particular hit with installers and EPCs.
  • Products: The biggest stars of the show were our APEX Generation 2 MCS microgrid controller, which we launched at the event, and the APEX SGS. Both garnered significant interest.
  • Valuable Connections: We had numerous productive engagements with existing and potential customers, solidifying our confidence that Rubicon is ideally positioned for market success.

Expanding Our Reach

Ruan Smith, APEX brand head, echoed many of the same sentiments and reported a surge of interest from African countries, including Tanzania and Kenya, who seem eager to introduce the APEX SGS to their markets. This comes amidst growing demand in the UK and Australia coupled with exciting ventures lying ahead for APEX in South Africa, solidifying APEX's broad appeal. "The show was incredibly fruitful, and we had multiple enquiries about APEX solution offerings. The interest in utilising our products for microgrid plants was enormous due to local support and manufacturing capabilities."

Setting Ourselves Apart

Synapse brand head Dylan Schnetler, reflects on how well-attended the event was and the positive attention the Synapse offerings received. While there were many new market entrants in the supply space, most offered much of the same, with inverters and battery combinations that had little to set them apart. There were only a handful of local manufacturers, and showcasing our locally developed hardware and software products across our ranges was particularly exciting. Attendees seemed especially intrigued by what the Synapse Ultra range offers regarding warranty, support, and technical differentiators.

Software Takes the Lead

Strategic Projects Engineer Henri van Eetveldt observed a clear trend towards software-based control systems as the industry standard. However, he identified a gap in solutions catering to the needs of large-scale residential and commercial applications. There remains an opportunity for advancement in this area.

A Bright Future for Solar

Solar & Storage Live Africa was a testament to Africa's thriving solar and storage future. Rubicon is poised to lead this growth, offering innovative solutions, and fostering valuable partnerships.
